Our New Guinea Pigs- Tribble and Reeces

We just love our new guinea pigs. Tribble is the multicolored Peruvian long haired guinea pig. He loves fresh food. He will eat almost any fruit or vegetable and doesn't mind being lap time if he has food to munch on. He is high maintenance since he needs to be brushed and have his fur trimmed a lot.
Reeces is the black and brown Abyssinian guinea pig. He loves hay, wheat grass and carrots. He is always trying to find a way to crawl out of our lap. He is the smarter and more active of the two.
The boys like to feed them, pet them and even sometimes clean their poop. They are a nice addition to our family and our homeschool.

Wheat Grass (Wheek Grass)

We grew our own wheat grass. It was pretty simple. Soak the wheat berries for 24 hours then rinse them every 8 hours three times. Sprinkle on potting soil and keep moist. Grass sprouts pretty fast and keeps growing. Our guinea pigs are so happy they wheek with delight whenever we cut it.

This month we studied Iceland. Here are some of the things we did-

- Watched a travel show on Iceland

- Watched video footage of the northern lights

- Talked about and looked at pictures of wildlife

- Made Icelandic food

- Talked about volcanoes

- Read a postcard from Reykjavik

- Listened to Bjork and Sigur Ros

We observed the paintings of Raphael and discussed angels.

We love Adventure Time! Is it that obvious? If you've seen me lately I'm always in my Adventure Time hoodie. It all started last year when August's coworker lent us a few episodes. From then on we loved the cute and quirky characters, crazy dungeons, and the story of two best friends. The boys especially like the episodes about ninjas, Jake's dad's dungeon, and card wars. I like the zombie candy kingdom one, the one where Mr. Pig and Tree Trunks fall in love and the one with the crazy witch and Finn's long hair. Since the show is recommended for ages 10 and up, I make sure to screen all the episodes first and watch it with them. Dagan wants to play Adventure Time Monopoly every single day. I have to draw the line at one game per day since one game can take more than an hour. He is learning a lot about counting money, making change, property values, morgaging property, and auctions.
