Owlcatraz in Shannon

We first stopped in Porirua about a 30 minute drive north at Adrenalin Forest. There we strapped on harnesses and went up in the trees to cross rope bridges, walk tightropes, and zipline from tree to tree. It was a fun challenge both physically and mentally. The boys were tall enough to tackle courses 1 and 2. We didn't take any pictures since we were up in the trees the whole time.

Then we inched our way north. The traffic on the highway was terribly slow. We passed lots of hills full of sheep, rocky coastlines and fruit stands. We finally reached the Panorama Motel in Levin and the boys immediately went for the trampolines. We floated around in the spa, ate pizza, and watched a documentary on natural disasters.

The next day we went to Owlcatraz (not to be mixed up with Alcatraz). Though there was a jail there and an Owl named Owlcapone. It was a guided tour which took a couple of hours. The owl house was cool but they didn't allow pictures. It was pretty dark and the owls were sleeping but it was neat to see them without the confines of a cage in the way.  The highlight was the glow worm caves. Sage just made the age limit. You have to be 8. These man made caves had thousands of real glow worms. It was pitch black in there except for the glow worms and small red lights which marked the railings. We all had to put on a rope belt and hang onto the loop of the person in front of us. It was really magical to see all these little glowing blue lights on the stalactites, stalagmites and walls of the cave.
