Fourth of July
Happy Birthday America! We spent the day singing American songs- Yankee Doodle, You're a Grand Ol' Flag, God Bless America and the Star Spangled Banner. The kids knew some of the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner from watching hockey. We watched some fireworks shows online. We ate hot dogs and looked at the state flags.
Our art project for the day was etching. The boys colored paper with crayons. Then we painted it black and etched firework designs into it. I didn't have black tempera paint so it was a challenge to etch the acrylic quickly before it dried. For a snack we made red, white and blue parfaits out of vanilla yogurt, fruit and sprinkles. In the afternoon I had them take photos capturing red, white and blue in the same frame.
