Drainage Holes in Coke Bottle

Planting Carrot Seeds

Planting Sage Seeds

Our avocado leaves were growing larger so we went to the Urban Garden plant store a few days ago. We picked up some potting soil, a watering can and the boys each got to pick a packet of seeds. We spent time wandering around the nursery with it's many varieties of flowers and plants. Sage pricked his finger on some cactus before I could warn him that there was a beware sign. Sage didn't want to plant Sage but Dagan did. Sage chose carrots instead. They are his favorite vegetable.

When we got home we used empty containers as pots- a metal cashew can, a diet coke bottle and a yogurt container. The diet coke bottle was the hardest to poke drainage holes in. We hammered with a nail, used a sharp scissors, poked it with a thumb tack and twisted it with a screw. Eventually it went through. We read the seed packets and talked about where and when the plants grow best.  They helped scoop soil, sprinkle seeds and water. Dagan watered his a little too much though thanks to the drainage holes, it was not a problem. We can't wait for the seedlings to start sprouting. Hope this nice warm summer weather continues.
