Not Back to School Picnic

On the first day of school, homeschoolers annually have a not back to school picnic. So while most kids are meeting their new teacher, sitting at desks, and taking out new school supplies, homeschoolers are making new friends and reuniting with old ones of various ages, playing in  the sunshine and fresh air, and eating lunch on picnic blankets.
We didn't attend last year since it was our very first year I was very unsure of our homeschool journey. But going into our second year, I feel more confident. We went to the picnic at Jericho Beach. The day started out cloudy but the sun peeked out in the afternoon. We made a few new friends, one of whom lives a few blocks away from us. We also saw families that we met through the West Side Homelearners meetups. The boys had fun digging in the sand, climbing a knobby tree, finding dead crabs and balancing on logs. I'm sure each year we will know more and more people at these events. It's nice to know there are so many homeschoolers out here.
